Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News two year later. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist as well as anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy stories such as weapons control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
